Live Sketchers: The creative strokes of Portugal Fashion Celebration
As with the last event, this Portugal Fashion Celebration renewed its proximity to the academic artistic world, through partnerships with the University of Porto Faculty of Fine Arts (FBAUP) and the Cávado and Ave Polytechnic (IPCA) Higher Institute of Design. This reinforcement of the focus on creativity resulted in multiple live sketchers, drawn by students from both schools.

At an event whose theme was based on Portugal Fashion’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the record made by the live sketchers stood out as yet another creative note in the coverage of the event. In fact, considering Portugal Fashion’s proximity to the academic artistic world, with the inclusion of shows by students from the Porto School of Fashion, Modatex and the Higher Institute of Art and Design (ESAD), this recent and innovative approach confirms Portugal Fashion’s intention to bring in more and more different agents from the world of the arts and creativity.

There were many memorable moments during the three days of Portugal Fashion in Porto, both backstage and during the shows. These moments were turned into sketches made on the spot by master’s degree students of Communication Design at FBAUP and by master’s degree students of Illustration and Animation at IPCA, under the coordination of professors Júlio Dolbeth and Paula Tavares, respectively. This experience outside of the classroom context allowed each one of the young participants to practise and develop their sketches through new perspectives, assuring Portugal Fashion Celebration a rich store of sketches.
